John Course

John CourseJohn Course - A leading DJ and figure in Australian dance music John first rose to prominence when he won the DMC Mixing Competition in Victoria in 1988 and 1989. Since that time John has remained at the top of his game converting his original Hip Hop skills to the house music dance floor. His mixing and tricks from the early days are still prominent in his sets today, utilizing CDJ 1000s, decks, FX and accapellas in the mix of his up, funky, big room club sounds.

Vicious, the record label that John co-owns, was established in 1990 and has also been at the forefront of the Australian Dance scene since its inception, being home to artists from Madison Avenue to Dirty South.

John has also mixed a host of compilations including A Night Out with John Course and Andy Van, A Night Out with Vicious Grooves, The 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 Ministry Of Sound Annuals, One Love Volume 1, The Ministry Sessions Vol 1, Vol 2, Vol 3 and Vol 4, Vicious Cuts Vol 1 and Vol 3 for his own label and most recently Vicious Cuts Summer 2008.

On a production front John was one quarter of the team behind Blackout, whose “Gotta Have Hope” single was a worldwide club hit back in 1998. With a huge list of remixes from that time until 2004 John eventually teamed up with production partner mrTimothy, working under the name of Electro Funk Lovers. Their remixes have consistently charted in the Australian Club Charts with the first Electro Funk Lovers single “Are You a Lover” released in April 2007. Their latest project “Second Skin”, being an entire remix album for the very cool Australian artist Katie Noonan, is released in April 2008.

A resident at Australia’s leading house club One Love since it’s inception, he also plays at Q Bar’s rocking Thursday night session and all over Australia at various one off gigs and clubs. Add to that multiple tours for the Ministry Of Sound, gigs in Dubai and Asia, the Overdrive Radio show (with Grant Smiley from TV Rock), which broadcasts nationally across Australia every Saturday night and you can see he is one of the most in demand DJs in Australia.
